Disorderly Conduct

•Mary J. Davis Johnson of Trezevant was charged with disorderly conduct during a Feb. 14 incident in Huntingdon.

According to the report by Officer Christopher Cole, officers responded to a call from an address on Green Oaks regarding people allegedly trying to steal a vehicle. Upon arrival, officers encountered a vehicle about to pull away. While officers were trying to speak with the driver, a female passenger, later identified as Johnson, was yelling profanities and racial slurs out the window at someone at the apartment complex. Officers asked Johnson to stop yelling, at which time she dared officers to take her to jail using profane language. Johnson was taken into custody and transported to Carroll County Jail.

Theft

•Crystal Ann Barton of Huntingdon was cited for theft of merchandise under $1,000 following a Dec. 18 incident at Walmart in Huntingdon.

According to the report by Officer Labe Ezell, video surveillance at Walmart showed Barton placing multiple items in her cart while in the self-checkout area and then leaving the store without paying for these items, totaling $78.26, for which Barton owes restitution to Walmart.

Stolen Firearm

•Derrick Deandre Mitchell of Corinth, Mississippi, was charged with theft of property and speeding during a Feb. 17 traffic stop in Huntingdon.

Officer James Kelley reported that he pulled over a 2014 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Mitchell after clocking the vehicle at 77 mph in a 55 mph zone. After detecting the odor of marijuana, Kelley conducted a search of the vehicle and found a loaded 45-caliber pistol. A computer check showed the gun to be stolen out of Hardin County.

Drug Possession

•Christopher B. Brown, 27, of Bruceton and Dakota Staggs (age and address not provided) were both charged with possession of schedule VI and drug paraphernalia during a Feb. 28 traffic stop in Huntingdon.

Officer Ethan Parham reported that he observed a 2004 Dodge Durango parked in front of the Farm Bureau building at around 12:45 a.m., and then as Parham approached, the vehicle’s lights were cut off and it pulled out onto Cotham Drive, where Parham performed a traffic stop. The driver gave Parham permission to search the vehicle, and Parham found approximately one gram of marijuana, rolling papers, and a glass pipe in the back seat area where Brown and Staggs were sitting as passengers.

Drug Possession

•Floyd E. Hilliard, 56, of Huntingdon was charged with possession of schedule II (methamphetamine) with intent and drug paraphernalia on Feb. 23 in Huntingdon.

Officer Labe Ezell reported that he observed a 2007 Pontiac pulled over at the side of Pin Oak Lane, and as he pulled alongside the vehicle, Ezell observed Hilliard lighting the bottom of a clear pipe. When asked what he was smoking in the pipe, Hilliard told Ezell that he wasn’t smoking a pipe and denied Ezell’s request to search the vehicle. Inv. Joseph Hedge was called to the scene with a K-9 dog, and the dog indicated the presence of narcotics. While searching the vehicle, officers found approximately 3.2 grams of a substance that tested positive for meth in four separate baggies and a clear pipe with fresh burn marks.

Felony Evading

•James H. Brown, 50, of Huntingdon was charged with felony evading, driving while revoked (second offense), failure to stop at a stop sign (three counts), and failure to stop at a red light followed a high-speed pursuit on Feb. 8.

Sgt. Brad Allen reported that he was about to pull over a vehicle driven by Brown at the intersection of Veterans Drive and Buena Vista Road. The vehicle sped away, and Allen activated his lights and siren and engaged in a pursuit that continued along Veterans Drive around Huntingdon, then onto Highway 22 North into McKenzie, on Highway 79 into Henry County and the City of Henry. A state trooper joined in the pursuit at some point. The chase ended when Brown’s vehicle ran into a ditch on Pioneer Road in Henry and officers removed Brown from the vehicle.

Warrant, Theft

•A warrant for theft of property involving merchandise has been issued against Kelly Harris of Jackson.

According to the report by Officer Labe Ezell, Harris and an unknown white male entered Walmart in Huntingdon on Feb. 14. Harris took items placed in her buggy by the man to the service desk to return them as if they had been purchased. Harris was given a Walmart gift card in the amount of $186.44 in exchange for the items. At the time of the report, HPD was still trying to determine the identity of the unknown man.

License Violation

•Kelli A. Newmon, 51, of Huntingdon was charged with driving on a suspended license during a Feb. 15 traffic stop in Huntingdon.

Officer Labe Ezell reported that he pulled over a 2005 Chevrolet Impala driven by Newmon due to prior knowledge that her license was suspended. A computer check confirmed the suspended status with one prior conviction and another charge pending.
