A Huntingdon bicyclist was killed in an early morning traffic accident on April 27.

Keith Gazely, 47, was the victim when he run under the trailer of a semi truck. He worked in the warehouse of VP Racing of Huntingdon.

According to Public Safety Director Walter Smothers, at approximately 7:30 a.m. the Huntingdon Police Dept. was notified by the 911 call center that there was a traffic accident involving a bicycle and a semi truck at the intersection of Highway 22 south and Veterans Drive. Police officers, firemen, and EMS responded to the scene.

“They found  a man who had been riding his bicycle on the shoulder of the road had run under the trailer of a semi-truck that was merging onto Veterans Drive from Highway 22,” said Smothers.

The driver of the tractor-trailer rig was Danny R. Tubbs, 54, of Paris.

County Coroner Ricky Stafford was called to the scene to assist.  Statements were taken from a witness as well as video footage from a dash cam in a vehicle that was behind the semi-truck.

Preliminary findings of the department are that there were no faulting actions on the part of the semi-truck driver, according to Smothers.
