Huntingdon business owner killed in Crockett Co. crash

A Nov. 12 two-vehicle crash in Crockett County claimed the life of a former Huntingdon resident and severely injured a Brownsville man.

Harold Ray Miller, 73, of Jackson, formerly of Huntingdon, died from injuries sustained when the Komatsu front loader he was driving was struck by a tractor-trailer grain truck on Highway 412 in Bells at around 2:30 p.m.

Miller was the owner of Miller Contractors in Huntingdon.

The driver of the tractor-trailer – Robert Staggs, 81, of Brownsville – was airlifted from the scene to Regional One Medical Center in Memphis. Further information regarding his condition was not available at press time.

According to the accident report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Staggs was driving westbound on 412 and Miller was also driving westbound in the emergency lane.

Staggs attempted to cross into the left lane from the fog line in the westbound lane when he struck Miller’s front loader. The front loader was hit in the front bucket on the drivers’ side, overturning both the tractor-trailer and the front loader.
