Hunter Ensley among five finalists for Mr. Football

Huntingdon Mustang football standout Hunter Ensley was among the five finalists announced last week for Mr. Football in Class 1-A. Ensley joins Cameron Reed of Huntland, Tanner Snyder of Lake County, Ronto Tipton of South Pittsburg, and Holden Willis of Greenback.

Ensley has helped lead the Mustangs to an 11-0 record so far this season and has rushed for 1,198 yards and 25 touchdowns. Ensley has completed 22-35 passes for 11 touchdowns and only one interception. Ensley also is the only athlete in Huntingdon School history to have been nominated for Mr. Football and Mr. Baseball having received the latter honor the last two seasons. Ensley has committed to play baseball next year at the University of Tennessee. Ensley looks to join Chris Donald and Phillip “Boo” Weathers as former Mr. Football winners from Huntingdon.

This is the 35th year for the Mr. Football Awards and for the last 18 years the award has been sponsored by the Tennessee Titans. A committee of statewide sportswriters, along with head coaches, selected the five finalists based on performance for the 2019 season along with academics and character. The five finalists will be trimmed to three and will be announced on November 19. The three semi-finalists will be invited along with their families and coaches along with members of the media at Nissan Stadium the home of the Titans in Nashville on December 2, where the winners in all nine classifications will be announced along with Kicker of the Year.
