How to Properly Take Care of Your Ears

A part of our body that we may neglect is our ears. This may mean you aren’t cleaning them the right way, or you listen to loud music all the time. To avoid hearing loss and other issues, learn how to properly take care of your ears.

Don’t Use Cotton Swabs to Clean

An important ear care tip is to keep them clean, but many clean them the wrong way by using cotton swabs. As it turns out, cotton swabs are not good for cleaning out your ears because you can end up shoving wax further down into your ear canal. Instead, you should just focus on cleaning your outer ear with a towel. If you suffer from a lot of ear wax build up, see a doctor to have it properly removed.

Turn Down the Music

We tend to use music to get through work, a workout, and a long commute. However, if you tend to listen to music at a high volume, this can cause hearing loss. Luckily, many smartphones have features that warn you about listening to something at a high volume for a long period of time.

Wear Protection When Necessary

Ear protection may be necessary in certain situations. For instance, if you work in construction, there are a lot of damaging sounds you can be exposed to all day on a project. Wearing earmuffs is an excellent way to avoid the ear damage that may come your way. Protection you can wear also includes ear plugs, which will ease the sound at sporting events, concerts, or clubs.

Remove Any Moisture from Them

When we get out of the shower or a swimming pool, one of the most uncomfortable feelings is having water in your ears. Water in your ears can lead to an infection if it stays in there for too long. Make sure you use a towel to dry it out.

Get Your Ears Checked Regularly

Knowing how to properly take care of your ears also means knowing when things are serious. To avoid any ear complications, visit a doctor regularly so that you can get your ears checked. Your ears play a role in balance and, of course, allow you to hear, so if you suffering from balance issues or hearing loss, your best bet is to see a ENT or audiologist doctor.
