Hopefully, it’s correct the third time

They say the third time is charm. I certainly hope that statement is true. I guess sometimes you just have to say there is a jinx on certain things that seemingly just happens and keeps happening.

I have had a true blue example of this very thing for the past two weeks. So this is the third time.

I have tried unsuccessfully to correct a mistake on the spelling of a person’s name. Folks, I’m talking about TIM RUNIONS, the new alderman at Hollow Rock. I have apologized to him for those two times it was misspelled.

Everybody’s name is important to them. It’s the one thing that you can claim as your very own. I have known Tim for a number of years and have used his name numerous times in the past. He was once the mayor of Hollow Rock and is still on the Hollow Rock-Bruceton Special School District Board.

So as you can see, I’ve known how to spell his name for quite a while.

In the Feb. 23 edition, his photo appeared on the front page as the new alderman who was sworn in at the Feb. 15 meeting. His name was spelled correctly in the article, but not under his photo which was spelled Tim Unions.

Nothing makes me any sicker than to open the newspaper  and there sticks out like a sore thumb a misspelling or some kind of error that has been skipped by me and the proof reader. And you wonder, how did this happen?  Working with names is the worst in dealing with mistakes because there are a lot of different ways to spell the same name.

I called and apologized and told him I would correct it the next week. I TRIED to correct it under the heading of corrections in the March 3 newspaper, but it didn’t fly. As a matter of fact it didn’t get off the ground. It came out in the newspaper that Jim Runions was his correct name.

OOPS, so again, I called him. The jinx is on, I think.

I have unchecked the box on my computer that allows it to change words that it thinks are misspelled. Because a Stockdale name was changed to Stockade recently as well. My apologies to Angela. who is also a Hollow Rock alderman.

This is the third time dealing with Tim’s name.

Hopefully, on the third try, it is spelled correctly.
