Hollow Rock has new city recorder

The Town of Hollow Rock has a new city recorder. Sharon Mann was selected at the March 16 meeting with a unanimous vote. Tandy Hall, who had worked only a short time resigned last month.

Citizen Tommy Boaz spoke briefly about essential services, but was escorted outside by police chief Danny Emerson as ordered by Mayor Rob Woods when he went over the five minute speaking time limit.

He had spoken at the Feb. 25 meeting also concerning the operation of the city, the good job the employees were doing and the need to up their salaries. At that meeting he had gone over the designated five-minute limit.

Boaz said since the Feb. meeting he had attained several records that then recorder Tandi Hall had gotten for him concerning  the status of where the town was money wise.

He called her a very competent and professional employee and said she would be greatly missed. She had five years of training at city hall.

He discussed long range planning for the town and the fact there was only one person, Kenny Chandler, in the water and street departments.

“It’s really a tenacious situation,” he said. “There is no backup for Kenny.”

At that point, Boaz was stopped by the mayor who told him: “You don’t know what goes on down here.”

“The tank has undergone restoration on the outside so the city doesn’t have to worry about the water tank,” said the mayor. “As far as paving, Kenny and myself drove over town today and paving will be going out for bids.”

He added that the town had received the $3,000 from CSX for closing Branch Road at the crossing.

New alderman Susan Moon spoke briefly concerning  the new recorder.

“I don’t want the town to think that that we’re left without a qualified person as recorder,” said Moon. “I think she is highly qualified with 20 years of experience.”

Hall’s name will be removed as a signee of checks at the bank.

Alderman Morris Rogers said the only way that salaries could be increase would be to increase revenue.

“If any citizen has any idea of how revenue can be increased in an economic way to let us know,” he said. “We are in good shape financially.”

Prior to the adjournment, a motion passed that will grant $250 to the Bruceton-Hollow Rock Little League.

Jake Rogers, who was at the meeting, introduced himself as U.S. House member David Kustoff’s field representative.
