The town of Hollow Rock has a new city court clerk. Deanna Overman was sworn in by town attorney Butch Madddox on Jan. 17 during the nine-minute Mayor and Board of Aldermen meeting.

Overman moved here recently from Houston, Texas and currently resides with her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Stacie Overman who live on Marlboro Road. They live at Lavender Kisses Farm where thy make lavender lotions and creams and sell them online.

The town held a public meeting at 11 a.m. on Jan. 4 to discuss the town’s intent to apply for the Fiscal Year 2023 Community Development Block Grant program.

Hollow Rock chose Community Revitalization as the choice for improvements to public community assets such as the park behind city hall, a playground and basketball court.

Under the eligible guidelines for the Fiscal Year application, the town may apply for grant funds and have an 11 percent local match requirement with the ThreeStar Reduction. The deadline for submitting an application is April 14.

The town’s property tax statements for all 2022 real and personal property taxes were mailed to all property owners in October of last year. The 2022 property taxes were due and payable as of Oct. 3, 2022 and will become delinquent March 1, 2023.

The 2021 property taxes became delinquent March 1, 2022. On or about April 1, 2023, suits will be filed in the appropriate court of record for enforcement of liens against the property for the 2021 real and personal property taxes, and all such delinquent taxes will be filed with the clerk and master of the county for collection.

Due to a recent storm, the city hall roof sustained damage which has been estimated at $15,340.39 by Public Entity Partners.

The town may soon have to increase the water rates. One rate increase has already been experienced when the minimum residential rate for 1,000 gallons was increased by $5 for a total of $35. The cost per gallon after the 1,000 gallon is .00415. The business rate went to $37 for the first 1,000 gallons of usage after the $5 increase.

A review from the state Water and Wastewater Board has found that the water fund is over in expenditures. The town has agreed to hire MTAS for a rate study.

The lobby of the city hall has recently undergone a change. It has been repainted and the painted image of the hollow rock was covered. However, it has a new look. The hollow rock from which the town derives its name has been painted by town recorder Sharon Mann, framed and hung on the wall.
