HMS Fillies win two, Mustangs suffer first loss

The Huntingdon Middle School basketball teams played back-to-back games Monday and Tuesday as they began their second week of the young season. The Fillies were winners at home on Monday against West Carroll 43-2 and at Camden on Tuesday 49-12. The Mustangs split their games for the two nights as they won against West Carroll at home 52-30 and lost at Camden 48-46.

The Fillies held West Carroll to only two first quarter points and improved to 2-1 for the season with the win on Monday. Ashlyn Rich led the Fillies with 12 points, Kelby Crossno 7, Lilly Kee 6, Natalie Kreuziger 5, Adalyn Allen 4, Anna Beth Crews 4, Delaney Byars 3, and Karter Moore 2. Nyiana Parker scored the two points for West Carroll.

The Fillies improved to 3-1 for the season with their win over Camden. The Fillies outscored the Lady Lions 28-3 in the second half to pull away after leading 21-9 at the break. The Fillies were led in scoring by Lilly Kee and Kelby Crossno with 10, Quinn Kelley 7, Natalie Kreuziger 6, Karter Moore 6, Ashlyn Rich 4, Delaney Byars 2, Sarah Beth Smith 2, and Anna Beth Crews 2. Camden was led by Faith Wallace with 6, LB Richardson 4, and Lauren Pierce 2.

The Mustangs improved to 3-0 with their win over West Carroll. The Mustangs trailed 15-11 after one quarter but outscored West Carroll 14-4 in the second to lead 25-19 at the half. The Mustangs turned it up in the third quarter as they outscored the War Eagles 23-3 in the third and held on for the win.

The Mustangs were led in scoring by Tayshawn Rivers with 20, Ashton Hutcherson 9, Kaleb Pearson 8, Deshaun Knight 6, Gray Eubanks 4, Graham Bartholomew 2, E.J. Lewis 2, and Jordan Willis 1. West Carroll was led by Will Robinson with 10, Titus Taylor 8, Drew Smith 4, Will Murray 3, Kaden Melton 3, and Izaih Clark 2.

The Mustangs fell to 3-1 for the season in their loss at Camden. The Mustangs trailed 46-40 with 3:17 left in the game and rallied and had two shots at the buzzer that didn’t fall as they suffered their first loss of the season. It was a see-saw affair as the score was tied at 10-10 in the first. The Mustangs were ahead 26-24 at the half. The Mustangs led 36-34 after three and Camden outscored the Mustangs 14-10 in the final frame.

The Mustangs were led by Rivers with 24, Pearson 6, Eubanks 4, Willis 4, Knight 4, Micah Allen 2, and Ashton Hutcherson 2. Camden was led by Nowah Porter with 13, Kaiden Patterson 11, Ridge Bruce 8, Hayden McCormick 8, Ayden Melton 6, and Gage Johnson 2.
