Helen Joyce Holland

1929-2019

Mrs. Helen Joyce Holland, 90, of Grenada, Mississippi, formerly of Memphis, TN passed away April 8, 2019 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS.

She was born February 19, 1929 in Fairplay, TX to Adrain Jackson and Ruth Leach Holland.

Helen was first a devoted wife and mother, then homemaker, seamstress, painter and genealogy enthusiast, who loved to watch birds and knit. Her love of books and reading lead her to a job as a librarian in the Memphis Public Library. She and her husband, Sam, were charter members of Georgian Hills Methodist Church where she was active in the Women’s Society and the children’s ministries. She currently was a member of Grace UMC. She was kind, prayerful and gracious, a true friend and animal lover who will be missed by her foot-footed companions, Kricket and Cody, and the deer kids.

Her life celebration service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, April 12, 2019 in the Chapel at Waller Funeral Home in Oxford, MS with Rev. Rick Shepherd officiating. Interment will follow at Springdale Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service at the funeral home from 12:00 noon until service time.

Survivors include three daughter, Salen White of Somerville, TN, Deborah Newsome (Keith) of Hermitage, TN, and Bevelyn Shepherd (Rick) of Grenada, MS; one grandson, Jason Mayse (Melissa) of Millington, TN; three great granddaughters, Kirsten, Lauren Kate, and Meredith Mayse, all of Millington, TN and one sister, Cindy Presson of Milan, TN.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Samuel Holland, one sister, Charlene Agee, and one brother, Sammy Holland.

Pallbearers will be Jason Mayse, Rick Shepherd, Ron Webb, Keith Newsome, Hart Horton and Fin Horton.

Memorials in Mrs. Holland’s memory may be directed to the Christian Camp of North Mississippi, P.O Box 651, Indianola, MS 38751.
