SPEAKING – Robyn Hatler speaks about human trafficking.

A combined meeting of the Carroll County Health Council, Carroll County Prevention Coalition and Community Advisory Board was held at the James Neely Carroll County Careers Center on July 26 and was concluded by participating in the Red Sand Project to raise awareness of Human Trafficking.

Red Sand was poured in cracks in front of the Careers Center, bringing attention to those who have “fallen through the cracks.”

Robyn Hatler discussed several aspects of human trafficking described as the business of stealing freedom for profit by force, fraud, or coercion. There are 40.3 million men, women and children who are trafficked worldwide. Every two minutes in the United States, a child is sold for sex.

The Tennessee Human Trafficking Hotline is 1-855-558-6484 or text BeFree to 233733. The Crisis Text Line is: Text TN to 741741.

During the meeting the group voted for what they believed to be Carroll County’s three priority health problems. Number one was overdoses, followed by obesity and mental stress.

Other program participants included: Khrystian Bynum from the Carroll County Prevention Coalition, Amanda Warren from the Community Advisory Board, and Tim King who gave a Built Environment Update and Emily Rushing who presented a Tennessee Dept. of Health report.

The next meeting will be Oct. 25.
