On September 7, the annual golf scramble was held at the Carroll Lake Golf Course to benefit Habitat for Humanity of Carroll County, Inc. This year there were 14 teams participating and eight hole sponsors. Through the generous support of these individuals and businesses, approximately $2,750 was raised for this worthwhile endeavor.
Since 1997, Habitat for Humanity of Carroll County has worked tirelessly with some of the county’s lower income families to enable them to move from substandard living conditions into a home of their own. These families, who are unable to qualify for a conventional home loan, must undergo a lengthy application process, save a down payment, and work at least 500 hours in community service hours and in the construction of their home, which is sold to them at no profit and no interest. The homeowners then repay Habitat by making monthly mortgage payments. Habitat has completed 21 homes for residents of Carroll County.
Businesses sponsoring teams were Carroll Bank & Trust (2 teams), K&K Real Estate Sales & Rentals, Maddox Insurance, Huntingdon Animal Clinic, Bethel University, Huntingdon Termite and Pest Control, Dilday-Carter Funeral Home, Centennial Bank, Huntingdon Insurance Agency, Pro Dentures (Dr. James Padgett), Agri Select, Dr. Jerry Atkins team, and Taylor Real Estate and Auction. Businesses and individuals sponsoring holes were First Bank, Carroll County Officials, Bethel University, Watson Lumber Company, Carroll County Electric Department, Peppers Automotive, Hamilton-Ryker, and Centennial Bank.
First place winners were team members from AgriSelect, Brad Haynes, Jeff King, Johnny Petering and Gary Weir; second place winners were Dilday-Carter Funeral Home team, Steve Carter, Angie Barker, Tammy Cole, and Pat Bishop; and third place winners was
Bethel University team, Brad Chappell, Aaron Johnson, Brandon Kilburn and Willie Poore. Closest to the pin winners were Tammy Cole, Cody Nelson, John Austin, Angie Barker, Keith Atkins, and Brent Attaway. If interested in helping with Habitat for Humanity, please call the office at 986-5900.
John Roberts cooked the hamburgers for the teams to enjoy before the start of the tournament and provided the drinks. Brenda Smith helped serve lunch. Steve Dill and Stephen Rushing sat at the holes for the hole in one prize.
