Gregor Gurley, 73, of Clarksburg, passed away on Nov. 9, at his home in Cedar Grove. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 12, at 1 p.m. Visitation will be Wed., Nov. 11, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. John D. Small and Phillip Halters will be officiating the service. Burial will follow at the Clarksburg Missionary Baptist Church.

Mr. Gregor Gurley was born on Oct. 6, 1947 to the late Melvin E. Gurley and Maxine Segraves Gurley. He was retired from Delavan in Lexington, where he retired as a supervisor. While working at Delavan, Gregor also built with his own two hands the beautiful log cabin that he lived in with his wife, Brenda, up until the time of his passing. He would leave work at Delavan every day and then proceed into the woods where he cut down and cut up every log that was used to build their forever home. Although this was something, he was very proud of, his real passion was auctioneering. Gregor truly loved being an auctioneer and excelled at it for over 40 years. At one time, there wasn’t an auction you could go to without seeing the huge Gurley’s Auction Service sign and hearing Gregor yell into the microphone while standing on his green flatbed, playing through the speakers. And even then, his wife Brenda was by his side, and usually the face you saw when you went to get your number. He dated his wife, Brenda Gurley, for 13 years, and then they finally wed on Dec. 31, 1993. Also, while auctioneering, he earned his real estate license and worked for Towne & Country in Jackson, TN. However, in 2006, he experienced health problems, and had to give up what he loved doing and had to retire from auctioneering and real estate. He was a member of New Liberty Church and he knew his savior at the time of his passing. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his younger brother, Mark A. Gurley.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 26 years, Brenda Duke Gurley; a son, Glenn (Greg) Gurley; 3 daughters: Lisa (Leslie) Kelly, Melissa (Damon) Bartley and Jamie McFarland; 8 grandchildren: Josh (Nicole) Kelly, Heather Gurley, Brandon (Jessica) McCormick, Ashley (Robert) Gurley, Dylan Gurley, Ava Bartley, Emma Bartley and Trista Russom; and 2 great-grandchildren: Cooper Wilkes and Baker Kelly.

Pallbearers who served are Josh Kelly, Dylan Gurley, Brandon McCormick, Kevin Wilkes, Joey Jones and Shamus Bartholomew. Chase Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements.
