Franklin N. McMackin

Franklin N. McMackin, 81, of Port Sanilac,  passed away on Nov. 29, at his home.
He was born June 25, 1939 in Hollow Rock, to late Cecil McMackin and Sadie (Bennett) Brown. Franklin graduated from Detroit’s Pershing High School in 1958. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He joined the Highland Park Fire Department in 1968, and retired from there in 1994. Shortly after, he moved to Port Sanilac, where he worked as a bus driver for the Carsonville Port Sanilac Schools and Sanilac County. He also worked in maintenance at the Pope Apartments in Port Sanilac and Stanton Apartments in Sandusky. Although Franklin remained very youthful and physically fit, he prefered a quiet life, taking care of his home and large yard, and reconnecting with old friends on social media. He also really enjoyed hanging out with his dog, Lily Patrice.
. Franklin was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father Richard “Mickey” Brown, and sister Carol Horkenbach.
Franklin is survived by his children, Shannon (Nora), Marla, Helena (Christopher Troy), and James McMackin; his sister, Brenda Brown; his brother Thomas Brown; his grandchildren, Connor, Brendan and Gavin McMackin; and four nephews Timothy, DeWayne, Lonnie Brown and Dennis Horkenbach.
Pomeroy Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
