Fowler receives Bethel Band scholarship

West Carroll High School senior Kaci Fowler will be a member of the Bethel University’s Renaissance Regiment (band) this fall.

In ceremonies at the West Carroll Junior/Senior High School gym on Friday morning, she signed a full scholarship that also includes housing and meals.

Her parents are Joe Fowler and Trish Ulrich.

“I am honored to receive the scholarship,” she said prior to the signing. “I know it will be a good experience.”

For the last two years she has served as the West Carroll War Eagles marching band field commander. Prior to that she was a flute player in the band.

She will be a nursing major student at Bethel.

Assistant Principal Shane DePriest said this is a huge accomplishment for Kaci.

“She is an outstanding student in the classroom as well as on the field,” he said.

Band director Michael Nelson said he was proud of everything that Kaci has accomplished.

“I am so excited for her, but it’s bittersweet for me,” he said.

One of the highlights of her years in the band was winning first place among field commanders in state competition.

Bethel Renaissance Regiment director Keith Cottrill said Kaci has certainly made an impact at West Carroll and he is looking forward to her being a member of the Bethel program.

She will be a part of the flute section.

“A freshman can’t be a field commander, but I don’t see why she can’t be in the future if she continues in the future as she has in the past,” he said.
