Flash flood closes one lane of Highway 22

An early morning storm Sunday dumped 2.28 inches of rain on Carroll County, closing one lane of northbound traffic on State Highway 22 between Huntingdon and McKenzie, according to Nichole Lawrence, TDOT Community Relations Officer. She said the road was closed for a few hours. The rain amount was according to the National Weather Service at Memphis that was measured at the Carroll County Airport.

The rain pounded the county around 5 to 6 a.m.

Carroll County Emergency Management director Janice Newman said she received no reports of damage.

Road supervisor Ricky Scott said Hood Lane in the Leach area and Hinkledale Road in the Christmasville Community were closed for a time.

Road supervisor Scotty Bailey said some riprap had to be replaced on the Terry Road, but that it was never closed.

Michael Williams, Carroll County Operations Manager for Carroll County Electric, said his linemen were called out to restore scattered calls for outages. The most outages were reported on Highway 22 north from Huntingdon to McKenzie’s south substation. It was restored a short time after lunch, he said.
