First COVID-19 Death Confirmed in Carroll Co.

Carroll County has had its first death related to the novel coronavirus, according to Carroll County Mayor Joseph Butler.

Butler said on Monday that he was notified by the Tennessee Department of Health about the death, but he added that does not have any further information regarding the person who died.

“For all that call Carroll County home, this loss hits us on a very personal level,” said Butler. “We assure you that, as local leaders, we share those same feelings. It is simply heartbreaking. Let us collectively pray for and grieve with the family, whoever they may be, as they are experiencing the loss of their loved one to this virus. Let us also grant them privacy.”

Butler encouraged county residents to take the threat represented by the virus seriously and adhere to all CDC, White House, and state health guidelines.

“As individuals, we must continue to protect our vulnerable populations, and take extra precautions to care for the elderly and children, as well as those that are struggling emotionally and mentally,” said Butler.

As of Monday afternoon, there were 15 confirmed cases in Carroll County with 11 recoveries and one death.

Statewide, there were 7,238 cases and 152 deaths.
