Fillies take first loss, but win two for the week

The Huntingdon Fillies are off to a 5-1 start to the season, and their first four wins have come within district play.

This past week, the Fillies defeated Clarksburg for the second time this season 19-1 to begin the week. Then after a rainout on Thursday with West Carroll, the Fillies hosted Henry Co. in a doubleheader at Fillies Field on Friday, winning the first game 2-1 and losing in the second game 14-9.

Kenadie Gibson spearheaded an offensive outburst in the Fillies win over Clarksburg as Gibson was 3-4 at the plate, blasted two home runs, and drove in six runs for the game.

Shelby Childress was 2-2 and drove in two and Madison Mann was 3-3, drove in three runs, and had a triple as the Fillies totaled 13 hits for the game. Rylee Holladay was the winning pitcher going the distance.

In the 2-1 win over Henry Co. on Friday, the Fillies loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh, and Josie Sanders came through with a base hit for a walk-off win for the Fillies. Sanders ended the game 2-4, Kayla Pulling was 2-4, and Childress was 2-3 and drove in the Fillies first run. Lindsey Sanders was 2-3 in the win. Holladay earned her second win of the week by going all seven innings and only allowed one hit for the game.

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Fillies fell 14-9 as Henry County exploded for six runs in the sixth to break an 8-8 tie.

Childress led the Fillies with a 3-3 night and three RBI’s, Gibson was 2-5 and drove in two in the loss. Natalie Kreuziger came on in relief and took the loss on the mound for the Fillies.
