Fillies squeak by Lady Rebels

The Huntingdon Fillies improved to 7-0 in district play and 8-6 for the season with a dramatic 4-3 win over the McKenzie Lady Rebels at McKenzie on Friday.

The Fillies scored single runs in the first, fourth, fifth and seventh innings to take a 4-0 lead heading to the bottom of the seventh. Two of the Fillies runs came on a fourth-inning home run off the bat of Josie Sanders and a seventh-inning home run by Kayla Pulling, which turned out to be the winning run as the Lady Rebels rallied in the bottom of the seventh.

Savannah Davis slammed a two-run homer to get the Lady Rebels on the board for the first time in the game, setting the the score at 4-2 with nobody out in the inning. Katie Chesser then double to left field, but the ball was mishandled and Chesser came all the way around to make the score 4-3. But Natalie Kreuziger struck out the next hitter and got the final out on a groundout to give the Fillies the win.

Sanders led the way for the Fillies with a 3-3 effort at the plate and drove in two of the four runs. Pulling only had one hit in four trips to the plate, but it was a home run, and she drove in two for the game. Shelby Childress, Kenadie Gibson, Rylee Holladay, Adalyn Allen, Madison Mann, and Lia Fuller all had a hit apiece for the Fillies.

Davis was 1-3 for McKenzie and drove in two with her home run. Chesser was 2-3, Anna Robinson 2-4, and Kassidy Brown 2-4. Kreuziger was the winning pitcher and Payton Ognibene took the loss.

The Fillies player earlier in the week and suffered a 10-7 loss to Camden at home. The Fillies trailed 10-0 going into the bottom of the second and held the Lady Lions scoreless the remainder of the game and scored seven times but the rally fell short. Kreuziger came on in relief in the second and allowed one in in five innings and struck out 11. Childress went 3-4, Sanders 2-3, Hannah King 2-4, Allen 3-4, and Ava Ryan Canovan 2-4. Rylee Holladay took the loss for the Fillies on the mound.
