The Huntingdon Fillies softball team vaulted to the top of the district as they improved to 5-0 in district competition in the third week of the season with a 13-3 win over McKenzie at home.
The Fillies scored in two of the first three innings to lead 6-0, and the big blow came early as Kayla Pulling led off with a double. Then with one out, Shelby Childress blasted her first home run of the season for a quick 2-0 lead.
McKenzie narrowed the margin to 6-3 in the fourth as Cassidy Brown hit a home run and Katie Chesser had a two-run single to make the score 6-3. But the Fillies pulled away and won by ten.
Pulling and Childress both had two hits in the game and drove in two runs. Kenadie Gibson was 2-3, and Hannah King had three hits and drove in a run. Kelby Crossno was 2-3, and Rylee Holladay and Josie Sanders both had a hit. Holladay was the winning pitcher.
The Huntingdon girls then played in the Milan Dog Pound tournament over the weekend and lost two tough games in the last at bat and lost four times in as many games.
The Fillies lost to Milan 7-3 as Ava Ryan Canovan and Lia Fuller had two hits apiece and Holladay took the loss on the mound.
Huntingdon then lost to Southside 4-3 as Fuller and Gibson collected two hits and Madison Mann had a hit. Natalie Kreuziger was the losing pitcher.
The Fillies suffered a 10-3 loss to South Gibson as Fuller, Pulling and Canovan all had hits and Kreuziger took the loss.
Huntingdon finished the tournament with a 9-8 loss to Westview as Gibson was 3-3 and drove in three and Holladay was the losing pitcher.
