The Huntingdon Fillies lost 58-50 to Gibson County Thursday in the semifinals of the District 12-AA tournament at Martin. It was the third loss of the season to the Lady Pioneers and will send the Fillies to the consolation game on Saturday night against Union City. The loss to Gibson County means the Fillies will start the region tournament on the road next Friday against either the number two seed or the one seed from District 11-AA.
The Fillies never got on track offensively against Gibson County and the Lady Pioneer defense collapsed on Lilly Kee who entered the game averaging over 19 points a game and was held to nine points for the contest. The Fillies struggled with turnovers and poor shooting and trailed by as many 12 in the fourth but made a run at the end and got within six, but Gibson County cashed in from foul line by making 17 of 21 from the line in the last quarter and 24-31 for the game. In contrast the Fillies only went to the line 14 times for the game and made nine.
Gibson County’s Micah Hart led all scorers with 25 and was 12-12 for the game from the line with eight of those coming in the second half. Evyn Cantrell added 13 for the Lady Pioneers and Georgia Lannom scored 11. Sydney Anderson scored 14 for the Fillies and all her points came in the second half and 12 in the final quarter. Kee, Lia Fuller, and Delaney Byars all scored nine apiece. Sophie Singleton 7, and Annabelle Singleton scored two. Kee also had eight blocked shots in the game.
The results of Saturday’s game were not available due to early deadline of Friday for paper.
