The Huntingdon Fillies added another title to their trophy case as they defeated McKenzie Friday 55-29 in a week that saw them win all three of their games and finish the regular season at 23-4 and 10-0 in district play. The Fillies will start the district tournament as the number one seed and earned a first-round bye which automatically gives them a region berth. The Fillies started their week with a 55-36 win over Camden on Monday and a 56-22 win over Clarksburg on Tuesday.
The Mustangs finished their week and regular season schedule with a hard-fought loss 57-50 to McKenzie after winning earlier in the week 53-48 over Camden and 65-34 over Clarksburg. The Mustangs finished the season 12-14 and 4-6 in the district for a fourth-place finish and will face Big Sandy in the first round of the district tournament.
In the Fillies game against McKenzie it was a hard-fought game for the first quarter with the district title on the line as the Fillies entered the game at home with an unblemished record in the district and the Lady Rebels with one loss. The Fillies held a slight 10-9 lead at the end of one quarter but a 14-3 run to start the second quarter gave the Fillies a 26-18 lead at the half. The Fillies defense was too strong for the Lady Rebels in the second half as the Fillies held McKenzie to 11 points in the second half while scoring 29 of their own and coasted to the win. Brooke Butler made three shots from behind the arc and led the Fillies with 13, Adyn Swenson 11, Kaci Fuller 11, Addison Postlethwait 8, Brooklyn Williams 6, and Tyasia Reed 6. McKenzie was led by Lilly Bennett with 17, Shelby Davis 8, Dani Dyer 2, and Kylie Reynolds 2.
In the nightcap the Mustangs played their best game of the year and led McKenzie after three quarters after getting blown out in their game at McKenzie earlier in the year. In the earlier match-up the Mustangs trailed 22-0 before they scored and trailed 37-15 at the half in that game but in the rematch at Huntingdon the Mustangs led at the half 26-17 and after three quarters 38-34 but the Rebels rallied as Lucas King made back to back threes and Micah Austin added one and the Rebels went from down 41-34 to a 43-41 lead and then fought off the Mustangs down the stretch to claim the win. Lucas King who was held to no points in the first half erupted for 26 in the second half and 17 in the final quarter, Austin added 18 and had three threes for the Rebels, Lazerick Hill 9, Nate Whitsell 2, and Lane Horton 2. The Mustangs were led by Grant Bartholomew with 19, Kieryn Jordan 12, Drake Butler 8, Noah Belew 4, Ben Taylor 3, Nik Bynum 2, and Brandon Lawton 2.
The Fillies started the week on the road at Camden and won 55-36 behind 18 points from Adyn Swenson, Brooklyn Williams 11, Brooke Butler 8, Kaci Fuller 5, Lia Fuller 5, Tyasia Reed 4, Addison Postlethwait 3, and Kamaya Harris 1. Camden was led by Bailey Morris with 9.
The Fillies hit the road again on Tuesday with a district win over Clarksburg 56-22. The Fillies were led in scoring by Postlethwait with 14, Swenson 12, Lia Fuller 8, Tyasia Reed 7, Brooke Butler 7, Williams 6, and Harris 2. Clarksburg was led by Ashlyn Yarbrough with 7 and Jasmine Bailey 6.
On Monday the Mustangs came from 18 points down in the first half for a 53-48 win over Camden. The Mustangs trailed 26-8 at one point in the first half until a Kieryn Jordan gave them a 33-32 lead with 1:40 left in the third. Drake Butler broke a 44-44 tie with a minute left in the game with a basket and a foul shot to give the Mustang a three-point lead that held for the win. Ben Taylor led the Mustangs with 16, Grant Bartholomew 15, Jordan 9, Butler 6, Bynum 4, and Belew 2. Camden was led by Garrett Vick with 15 and Zack Oxford 13.
On Tuesday the Mustangs picked up a big district win over Clarksburg on the road 65-34. The Mustangs had fifteen different players score led by Butler with 12, Kylin Finch 7, Bartholomew 6, Belew 5, Jordan 5, Pritchard 5, Hutch 5, Lawton 4, Clark 3, Irvine 3, Bynum 2, Taylor 2, McCord 2, Hutcherson 2, and Atkinson 2. Clarksburg was led by Jaylin Davis with 13, Tristan Donth 7 and Stefan Gilbert 6.
