The Huntingdon Fillies basketball team entered Friday night’s game with Westview ranked fifth in the state and sporting an 18-3 record and 2-1 in the district and the Lady Chargers were 20-0 and 3-0 and ranked as the top team in the state in the Class 2-A polls. The Fillies lost a little over a week ago to Gibson County, the number four team in the state and just ahead the Fillies for second in the district. A win over the Chargers would have forced a three-way tie for the top spot, instead Westview won the game in the final seconds of the game on the strength of foul shots 59-54 after the Fillies missed a close in shot with less than thirty seconds that would have given the Fillies the lead. The Fillies had the ball trailing 55-54 after McCall Sims missed a foul shot but a Delaney Byars shot failed to find net and the Lady Chargers tacked on foul shots to win by five.

Huntingdon’s junior forward Lilly Kee led the Fillies in the game with 22 points, Sophie Singleton 16, Anderson 7, Fuller 5, A. Singleton 2, and Byars 2. Jada Harrison led all scorers with 23, Kaylee Alexander 14, and Sims 13.

The Fillies won a district game earlier in the week as they defeated Milan at home 84-34. Kee led the way for the Fillies with 16 and added nine rebounds, Sophie Singleton 13, Sara Beth Smith 13, Josey Stokes 12, Kelley 8, Byars 7, A. Singleton 5, Fuller 4, and Anderson 2. Milan was led by Kaidence Martin with 16.

The Fillies played homecoming after an early Newsleader deadline on Friday 13 and defeated Gleason 60-38 behind 15 points from Kee, Sophie Singleton 11, Annabelle Singleton 10, Byars 9, Anderson 7, Stokes 4, Harris 3, and Smith 1. Autumn Mingle led Gleason with 14.

The Mustangs struggled last week as they dropped both of their district games 62-41 to Milan and 55-39 to Westview. Against Milan the Mustangs were led in scoring by Ty Kelley with 13, Ethan Ramsey 12, Tycen Willis 9, Ezell 2, Lewis 2, Pearson 2, and Gordon 1. Milan was led by Andy Westbrooks with 14, Adam Arnold 12, Tyrone Brown 12, and Carmelo Jones 11.

In the Mustangs loss at Westview that dropped the Mustangs to 1-3 in district play, they were led in scoring by Kelley with 8, T. Willis 7, Pearson 6, J. Willis 5, Ramsey 4, Lewis 3, Flowers 2, and Smothers 1.

In the homecoming game with Gleason the Mustangs came away with a 74-45 win over the Bulldogs and Ty Kelley led all scorers with 25, Tycen Willis 13, Smith 6, Lewis 5, Smothers 5, Gordon 5, Lewis 4, Ramsey 4, J. Willis 4, Ezell 3, Bryant 2, and King 1. Drake Lehmkuhl led Gleason with 16. The Mustangs stand at 8-11 for the season.
