Fillies and Mustangs lose in last regular season game

 Senior night proved to be a distant memory as the Fillies and Mustangs both lost to Martin Westview in their last regular season game of the year and their only game for the week leading into the district tournament. The Fillies lost to the district leading Lady Chargers 59-49 to fall to 4-4 in the district and 22-5 for the season. The Fillies will enter the district tournament that starts this week as the third seed and will face Gibson County the second seed. The Mustangs lost in the second game 73-54 and missed a chance to finish third in the district and will instead be seeded fifth with a 2-6 record in the district and 10-15 for the season and will play Westview on February 14 for a region berth in the four verses five play in game.

 In the first game of the night the Fillies hung with the number one team in the state and faced a 39-36 deficit after three quarters. The Lady Chargers put up a flurry of points in the final quarter, outscoring the Fillies 20-13 in the final frame behind the hot shooting of McCall Sims. Sims who scored 26 points in the game, scored 13 of those in the final quarter and that included three shots made from behind the three-point line. For the game, Westview only had four players record points. Jada Harrison who recently was named a Miss Basketball finalist, scored 16, Kylee Alexander 11, and Jillian Brigance 6. The Lady Chargers won the game from the three-point line and the foul line. The Lady Chargers made 11 three-pointers in the game and were 8 of 8 from the line. The Fillies were led in scoring for the night by junior Lilly Kee with 28 points and Kee also had eight rebounds. Lia Fuller added 6, Sophie Singleton 5, Josey Stokes 4, Delaney Byars 3, and Sydney Anderson 3.  The Mustangs got off to a slow start offensively in the second game and lost the rebound battle to the Chargers and missed their district win of the year. Ty Kelley, one of the five seniors that started for the Mustangs on senior night, led in scoring with 17, Ethan Ramsey 11, Landon Gordon 9, Tycen Willis 8, Caleb Ezell 3, E.J. Lewis 2, Kaleb Pearson 2, and Jordon Willis 2. For Westview, Brett McGuffin scored 25 and made 7 three-pointers, Dontez Joy scored 14 and recorded 10 rebounds, and Quincy Hamilton scored 11.
