Fillies advance in region with 63-41 win over Collinwood

The Huntingdon Fillies advanced to the second round of the Region 6-1A basketball tournament Friday with a 63-41 win over Collinwood at home. It was the 13th win in a row for the Fillies who improved to 26-4 for the season and left the Fillies with one win from a sectional berth and a match-up with Summertown on Monday March 2 in Wayne County.

 Brooklyn Williams a junior guard for the Fillies keyed an early fourth quarter start to propel the Fillies past the Trojanettes of Collinwood. With the Fillies clinging to a nine-point lead at the end of the three quarters at 42-33, Williams had three steals and a basket along with an assist that gave the Fillies a 51-33 lead with the 9-0 run that came in the first two minutes of the final frame.

 The Fillies who have played well on the defensive side of the ball all season pressed the Trojanettes into several turnovers in the second half as the score was tight in the first half of action. The Fillies fell behind early as Collinwood jumped to a 6-2 lead but the Fillies behind two three-pointers from Addison Postlethwait in the first quarter to hold a narrow 15-14 lead at the end of one quarter. The Fillies ended the first half with five three-pointers with three of those in the first quarter and stretched their narrow lead to 27-21 at the half.

 The Fillies won the third quarter with a 15-12 edge and were 5-6 from the foul line in the quarter. The Fillies then exploded offensively in the final quarter as they outscored Collinwood 21-8 in the quarter and went to the foul line 13 times in the fourth and made nine of the free shots and ended the second half with nine three-pointers for the game and held Collinwood to one three-pointer for the game.

 Adyn Swenson led the Fillies with 14 points in the game, Brooke Butler added 12 and made two three-pointers, Williams finished with 11 and three made shots from behind the arc, Tyasia Reed 9, Postlethwait 8, Lia Fuller 6, and Kaci Fuller 3. Asia Kelley had 11 for Collinwood, Retherford 8, Whitehead 8, Kautsky 6, Gobbell 5, and Haddock 1.
