Early voting ends Aug. 1

Early voting for the State and Federal Primary and Carroll County and State General Election began Friday, July 17. Early voting in Carroll County will run through Saturday, Aug. 1, with Election Day to follow on Thursday, Aug. 6.

Early voting provides Tennesseans the opportunity to avoid Election Day crowds and can decrease wait time. Although COVID-19 safety may seem less critical to Benton County voters due to the county’s ongoing low rate of infection, the safety of voters and poll officials remains a concern. With social distancing measures and other safety precautions planned for this election, voters are urged to take advantage of Tennessee’s generous early voting period.

During early voting and on Election Day, Tennesseans are encouraged to do their part to minimize the spread of COVID-19. This includes wearing a face covering and maintaining a 6-foot distance from poll officials and other voters. Voters should expect to see signs with further safety instructions at their polling locations. All poll officials will be wearing face coverings and will be trained to social distancing measures.

Voters can view and mark sample ballots and much more with the GoVoteTN app or online at GoVoteTN.com. Voters who have moved within the county or have had a name change since the last time they voted also can update their registration online at GoVoteTN.com. Making sure your registration is up to date, reviewing the sample ballot, and deciding how you will vote in advance will reduce the time voters need to spend at polling locations.

Citizens planning to vote must bring valid photo identification with them to the polls. A driver’s license or photo ID issued by the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security, by Tennessee state government, or by the federal government are acceptable even if they are expired. College student ID’s are not acceptable. More information about what types of ID are acceptable can be found on GoVoteTN.com or the GoVoteTN app.
