DAART Showcase set for May 15

Join the local community at The Dixie on Saturday, May 15, to experience the long-awaited DAART showcase presented by Friends Life Community of Nashville.

From 11am – 11:45am, DAART students will be exhibiting their work in a variety of artforms ranging from poetry and visual art to pottery and original music. The showcase will conclude with a dance performance and video celebration featuring the DAART students from 11:45am – 12pm.

The special partnership program between The Dixie and Friends Life Community is a year-long program that focuses on teaching participants with disabilities self-advocacy, confidence, and self-expression skills through the arts, while also training local teaching artists and arts professionals to work with individuals with disabilities, in order to ensure that those in the local community can create and support opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

A very special thanks to the Friends Life DAART Director, Sarah Edwards, and the funding support of TN Council of Developmental Disabilities. Volunteers and sponsors like West Tennessee Public Utility District are crucial in making this class possible. For more information about this program or how to get involved as a sponsor or volunteer, please visit DixiePac.net or call The Dixie at (731) 986-2100, M – F, 10am – 4pm.
