COVID-19 vaccines now available to ages 70-plus in Carroll County

The Carroll County Health Department (CCHD) is now offering vaccinations to anyone age 70 and above, according to a recent press release from the Tennessee Department of Health.

Previously, only those age 75 and over could receive the vaccine, along with others in particular phase groups.

Currently those who qualify for phase groups 1a1, 1a2, and 1b can also received vaccinations in Carroll County.

Phase 1a1 includes impatient and other high-exposure health care workers, residents and staff of long-term care facilities, home health care staff, people age 18 or over who are unable to live independently, and first responders with direct public exposure.

Phase 1a2 includes all other health care workers with direct patient exposure and funeral/mortuary workers with direct decedent contact.

Phase 1b includes K-12 and childcare teachers and staff and first responder operations personnel without significant direct public contact.

In all three phases, first priority will be given to those age 65 and older.

Those age 70 and over and those qualifying for one of the phases listed above who wish to receive a vaccine can call 1-866-442-5301 to register for an appointment or register online at https://covid19.tn.gov/covid-19-vaccines/vaccine-phases/.

The vaccines currently being administered at the CCHD require two doses to provide the best protection, and people who receive their first dose at the CCHD will be contacted to make an appointment to receive their second dose.

The CCHD recently received statewide recognition as the department administering the second highest number of doses per capita in the state. Neighboring Henry County ranked first.

As of Jan. 31, a total of 654,537 vaccinations had been reported across Tennessee, representing nearly seven percent of the state’s total population.

As of Monday afternoon, 3,286 cases of COVID-19 had been reported in Carroll County since the start of the pandemic, and 72 people have died, included four new deaths reported since Sunday afternoon.

Statewide, there have been 729,187 cases of the virus, and a total of 9,753 Tennesseans have died.
