COVID-19 cases spike in county

Carroll County COVID-19 cases are steadily increasing. As of Monday afternoon when new statistics were released, Carroll County has had 228 cases with 157 being positive at present, according to County Director Emily Rushing. Three deaths have been recorded.

From Monday, July 27 to this Monday, 139 new cases were recorded.

She was not able to give any numbers concerning people that might be hospitalized.

There is no vaccine at present to combat the virus.

“There are certain things that can be done that will help slow the spread of the disease,” said Rushing. “Keeping a safe distance apart, wearing a mask from age two years and up, washing your hands frequently and sanitizing.”

She wasn’t sure where the hot spots in Carroll County were particularly. According to reports, several people have tested positive that attended revivals at Westport Baptist Church and Bethel Baptist Church in the Carter Store Community.

Symptoms of the disease include shortness of breath, loss of taste and smell, a fever and cough or nausea.

“If you experience any of these symptoms you should visit a health care provider,” said Rushing.

Free testing is offered at the Carroll County Health Dept. at 633 High St., Huntingdon from Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. However, you must call ahead to schedule an appointment at 986-1990. Testing can be done on the outside in your vehicle.

Since testing began, 3,852 tests have been administered in Carroll County at the health department, doctors’ offices and clinics.

For the results of tests administered at the health department, it generally takes five days.

“If you feel any of the listed symptoms before tests are returned, you should quarantine yourself for 14 days from the last contact with an individual and visit a health care provider,” said Rushing.
