The most accomplished runner to ever don a Mustang jersey, signed last week at Huntingdon High School to run Cross-Country and Track at UT Martin. King chose the Skyhawks over Union, Memphis and Bethel. This past season King finished fourth in the state and the prior year finished fifth. The Mustang team as a whole also medaled in due part to King’s high finish.

His coaches at Huntingdon were Clint Ezell, Elizabeth Lott and Ginger Taylor. Lott and Taylor had a chance to speak about King at the signing, “I knew he was something special when you saw him running hills at a time when he could be doing something else, he put in the work to put himself in this position today to further his career and his education”. Taylor added that at the state meet, he pushed himself beyond his limits at the end of the race to finish in the top four.

The signing was a family affair as Colton was joined by his parents, Matt King, Jill and Blake Courtney. Matt’s wife Katie was unable to attend. Also in attendance were Tommy and Shelia Tippitt, Denise Tucker, Bud Tucker, all grandparents. His other grandparents Joel and Paula King were unable to attend. Both the Mustang and Fillies Cross Country teams were also on hand to support Colton.
