Clarksburg’s Fall Fest attracts large crowd

Clarksburg’s Fall Fest Saturday attracted a large crowd of people from its opening at 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. when it ended.

This is one of the two fund raisers during the year for the upkeep of the city park. The other one is the Valentine Sweetheart breakfast that is held around Valentine’s Day. However, the focus of the Fall Fest is community participation instead of just as a fund raiser.

The Clarksburg Fire Department made approximately $1,400 selling steak sandwiches and hot dogs.

There were a number of vendors offering arts and crafts with entertainment as an added attraction.

Sylvia Hodges of Huntingdon, her sister Carol Rhodes of Clarksburg and friend Dianne Kirby of Leach talked about the good time they were having as they stopped to rest on a bench near the park entrance.

“The weather is just perfect,” said Hodges.”We won cakes at the cake walk, bought jewelry, fall decor and T-shirts. We just took it all in.”

“It’s like a reunion as there has been a lot of hugs,” said Rhodes. “We enjoyed stopping and listening to the music as well.”

“I bought some candles,” said Kirby. “I really like them.”

Mayor Howell Wayne Todd was around and about speaking with the people and enjoying the event.

“I am very happy with the turnout today,” he said. “This is the second one since last year’s event was cancelled due to the COVID Pandemic. This is far more than came in 2019.”

There are plans to have this event every year.

“People are just glad to get out,” said the mayor. “It makes for  a good kindred spirit.”
