Clarksburg splits with Central on homecoming night

Friday night was a divided homecoming for Clarksburg High School as the Lady Rockets topped the visiting Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central Lady Tigers 48-20, while the Rockets fell to the Tigers 66-48 in the nightcap.

The Lady Rockets came out hot in the first quarter, putting nine points on the scoreboard before Central’s Leagan Binkley landed a three-pointer for the Lady Tigers.

With 11 first-quarter points from Brooklyn Williams, Clarksburg was way ahead 18-3 going into the second period.

The second period wasn’t quite as one-sided, but the Lady Rockets still outscored Central 13-5 to hold a considerable 31-8 advantage at the half.

The Lady Tigers, who were shooting pretty cold in the first half, went absolutely artic in the third quarter, failing to score a single point as the Lady Rockets added another 12 to their lead.

Central rallied in the fourth quarter, outscoring Clarksburg 12-5 down the final stretch, but it wasn’t nearly enough as the Lady Rockets won homecoming bragging rights with a 28-point winning margin.

Williams led Clarksburg in scoring with 14 points, followed by Ashlyn Yarbrough with 11, Sarah Derryberry with 6, Makiya Abdallah with 5, Sami Roney with 3, and Krista Noble, Macy Ward, and Grace Bartholomew with 2 apiece.
