Clarksburg’s Citizen of the Year was revealed by Mayor Howell Todd at the noon hour on Dec. 10 at  City Hall.

Sabrina Pearson was presented a plaque because of her assistance and help on many projects in the town.

This is a yearly event that takes place during Christmas open house.

“Sabrina is creative and energetic and helps town recorder Leigh Grice a lot with projects,” said the mayor.

She is s a first grade teacher at Clarksburg School and the wife of former Mayor Jamie Peterson.

“I’m humbled and grateful,” she said. “I love Clarksburg. It is a very close knit community.”

She serves on the Park Committee, Breakfast with Santa, Fall Festival in the ‘Burg and the Clarksburg Organization of Parents and Teachers (COPT).

Approximately 75 people attended the open house and enjoyed the variety of finger foods displayed.

The mayor pointed out it has been a very busy year especially with the renovation  of the city hall.

“There were a lot of challenges, but it is complete inside with the parking lot still to be finished,” he said.

In the city hall there are new spaces for the mayor and city recorder.

There is a $950,000 grant for sidewalks but the city has until 2025 to bid them out.

Through a grant the city received a half million dollars to repair two lift stations that was a big relief.

Todd noted that former Clarksburg resident Carolyn Pritchard Rowland has been really generous toward the town and has given donations for city hall renovations and the snowflake lighting on the light poles as Christmas decorations. The official name is The Carolyn Pritchard Rowland City Hall where large community gatherings can be held.

Coming up in the new year will be the Sweetheart Breakfast in February and the walking track in the city park that is scheduled to be resurfaced.

There is a police challenge since officers can’t work until the bigger towns let them off, according to the mayor.

“Right now, we have no major crisis,” said Todd.
