Theft

•Deputies are looking into the recent theft of personal property in Cedar Grove.

Deborah Smothers told deputies on Dec. 31 that someone took six diamond rings from her bedroom in her home at 1010 Highway 424 some time around Dec. 26. Smothers estimated the value of the rings at around $500 altogether.

Stolen Car Recovered

•A vehicle that may have been stolen locally was recently recovered in another county.

According to the report by Deputy Michael Smith, he received a call from Lauderdale County authorities on Dec. 31 that an abandoned 1989 Ford Mustang had been found on the side of the road with the engine still running. A computer check showed that the car was registered to James Warmath of Trezevant. Smith contacted Warmath, and Warmath told the deputy that the car had been stolen from his residence on Dec. 29 and that he knew who took it. Warmath said he didn’t report this to authorities because he was trying to get the car returned on his own. Smith told Warmath he needed to contact authorities in Lauderdale County to make arrangements to pick up his car. No charges were filed.

Multiple Charges

•James Fred Warmath, 58, of Trezevant was charged with driving on a suspended license (first offense), resisting arrest, possession of a schedule II drug with intent, and drug paraphernalia on Jan. 3.

According to the report by Deputy Steven Scott, he observed a Ford Mustang with a non-functioning brake light, and when he started following the vehicle in his patrol car, the vehicle abruptly turned into a driveway and the headlights were shut off. Scott activated his blue lights, and the driver exited the vehicle and ran behind the residence. Scott apprehending the driver, identified as Warmath, behind the residence, and Warmath told the deputy that he ran because his license was suspended. A computer check confirmed Warmath’s suspended status. Approximately 2.5 grams of a substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine and a glass pipe were found in Warmath’s possession.

License Violation

•Brent Grooms, 46, of Hollow Rock was charged with driving on a revoked license, driving without lights, and expired tags during a Jan. 1 traffic stop in Bruceton.

According to the report by Deputy Tony King, he pulled over a vehicle driven by Grooms on Broad Street because the headlights were off. A computer check showed that Grooms’ license was revoked, and the vehicle’s registration was also expired.

License Violation

•Fernando Suarez-Morales, 35, (address not known) was cited for driving on a suspended license during a Jan. 2 traffic stop in Carroll County.

Deputy Frank McGee reported that he pulled over a blue 2004 Chevrolet truck driven by Suarez-Morales. A computer check showed that his license was suspended.

Assault

•Fernando Suarez, 35, of Atwood was arrested on charges of aggravated assault and domestic assault following a Jan. 2 incident at his residence.

According to the report by Deputy Jason Walker, he responded to a domestic call at the Suarez home, and Lindsey Suarez told the deputy that Mr. Suarez, who was no longer at the residence, had threatened her with a gun. Ms. Suarez said that she and Mr. Suarez had gotten into an altercation, he had become aggressive, and, at one point, he brandished a 45 pistol, causing her to fear for her life and the safety of her children. Mr. Suarez was later stopped and arrested by deputies and transported to the Carroll County Jail.

Assault, Drug Paraphernalia

•Herbert Allen Tilton, 43, of 21185 Seminary Street, Hollow Rock, was charged with two counts of domestic assault and possession of drug paraphernalia on Jan. 4 in Hollow Rock.

According to the report by Deputy Chance Townes, deputies went to Tilton’s address to serve a citation and found Tilton hiding under a curtain and pillows on the front porch. While searching the property, deputies found a glass pipe in a backpack. Christina Milton approached deputies while they were speaking with Tilton, and she told deputies that on Jan. 2, she and her sister had pulled into the driveway, at which point Tilton came out of the residence holding two shovels and told them to get off his property. Milton said Tilton then threw the shovels at the vehicle, causing her to fear for her safety.

Protection Order Violation

•Douglas Bradley, 52, of Bruceton was charged with violating an order of protection following a Jan. 4 incident.

According to the report by Deputy Steven Scott, he went to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Carroll County and spoke with Tracy Malone. She told Scott that Bradley keeps returning to her residence in spite of an active order of protection. Scott noted that Malone had brought Bradley to the hospital with her from her residence. Scott verified the protection order and placed Bradley under arrest.

Theft, Vandalism

•Deputies are investigating a recent case of theft and vandalism in Carroll County.

A representative with KR Trucking contacted the Sheriff’s Department on Jan. 5 to report that an 18-foot car hauler valued at $7,000 had been stolen from a work site on Black Gully Road. It was also reported that a company off-road truck was vandalized with computer equipment being removed from the vehicle.
