Boat Theft

•The Sheriff’s Department is investigating the recent theft of a boat from private property in Cedar Grove.

James Maharrey told deputies on Nov. 5 that someone came on his property at 7975 Terry Road and took a 15-foot boat and trailer valued at $2,000 without his permission. Maharrey described the boat as white with blue carpet with a 75 horsepower Johnson outboard motor. Also reported as stolen was a red tool box valued at $500.

Suspect Apprehended

•Rockel O’Bryan Humphrey, 32, of Jackson was taken into custody following a vehicle and foot pursuit on Nov. 3 in the Huntingdon area.

According to the report by Deputy Ryan Hamilton, Huntingdon officers pursued a reckless driver in a silver Chevy Malibu at around 6:20 p.m., and after the driver, later identified as Humphrey, stopped on Buena Vista Road and fled on foot, Hamilton assisted in the search. Hamilton spotted Humphrey running across a field, and then later made contact with Humphrey as he was walking along Buena Vista Road. Humphrey ran from the deputy, and Hamilton pursued him on foot. After repeatedly ordering Humphrey to stop, Hamilton deployed his taser gun and then took Humphrey into custody. Charges filed against Humphrey were not listed on the report.

Aggravated Assault

•William Craig Thompson, 35, of 382 Griggs Chapel Road, Cedar Grove, was charged with aggravated assault and domestic assault following a Nov. 1 incident at his residence.

According to the report by Deputy Tony King, Thompson’s wife, Alyssa Thompson called the Sheriff’s Department and said that her husband had slammed her head against the clothes dryer and she was bleeding from a head wound. Ms. Thompson said she fled to a neighbor’s house in fear for her safety. Ms. Thompson was being treated by EMS responders when King arrived at the neighbor’s house, and he observed that she had visible lacerations and bruising on her forehead, nose, and left eye. Deputies found that Mr. Thompson had fled the residence with one of three children, leaving two other children at the house asleep, but Mr. Thompson was later found and arrested.

License Violation

•Harmony Starr Winsett, 28, of Milan was charged with driving on a revoked license on Nov. 1 in Trezevant.

Deputy Christopher Adams reported that he observed Winsett driving a white Dodge Durango, and he had prior knowledge that her license was revoked. Adams made contact with her after she pulled into a private driveway, and a computer check confirmed that her license was revoked.

DUI, Weapons Violation

•Justin Neal Connally, 37, was charged with DUI and possession of a handgun while under the influence on Oct. 31.

According to the report by Deputy Cody Walker, he observed a silver Silverado in a field beside Veterans Drive South in Huntingdon, and when he went to see if anyone was in the vehicle, he identified Connally as the driver. Connally told Walker that he pulled off the road to use the bathroom and got stuck in the field. Walker noted that Connally smelled strongly of alcohol and his speech was slurred, and Connally performed poorly on field sobriety tests. Walker found a loaded .380 and a loaded nine-millimeter handgun in Connally’s possession. Connally was transported to the Carroll County Jail.

Theft

•Deputies are investigating the recent theft of money from an Atwood residence.

Noah Jon Graves Penzol told deputies on Oct. 31 that $2,300 in cash was stolen from a dresser in his home. Penzol said that HVAC workers had recently been inside his house unattended. Penzol said he last counted the money on Oct. 23, and the workers started doing work at his house on Oct. 25.
