Carroll County Fair starts Monday

Long-running event featuring pageants, food and livestock

Huntingdon is preparing for its long-running Carroll County Fair event, which kicks off Monday, Sept. 19 and lasts throughout next week.

Community members are invited to the Carroll County Fairgrounds, 201 Mustang Dr., Huntingdon, beginning Monday at 4 p.m. for the Jr. Livestock Show beginning at 4 p.m., with a Jr. Livestock Auction to follow at 6 p.m.

The Miss Teen Carroll County (ages 13-15) will be crowned beginning at 6 p.m., with the Miss Carroll County Fairest of the Fair (ages 16-20) following the Miss Teen event Monday evening.

The Carroll County Chamber of Commerce Food Booth will open at 5:30 p.m. that day. Entries for Miss Teen are $15 and the cost is $30 to enter the Fairest of the Fair pageant. Other pageants entry fees are $10 each. Admission to the pageants is $5 a person, with children five and under free. Pageants will take place inside the Carroll County Civic Center, located at the fairgrounds. Any contestant winning Queen in another county fair pageant in the current year is not eligible to compete in Carroll County’s fair pageant this year, organizers noted.

On Tuesday, pageants will open for ages 7-9 when the Little Miss Fairest of the Fair queen and court will be crowned beginning at 6 p.m. Following the Little Miss pageant, ages 10-12 will take the stage for the Junior Fairest of the Fair event. The Chamber of Commerce Food Booth opens at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Exhibits open at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, with the Chamber of Commerce hosting its food booth at the fairgrounds from 11 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. Fairground exhibits will close at 5 p.m. Wednesday with judging taking place on Thursday.

A petting zoo will be set up Thursday for community members when the youngest of the pageant participants takes the stage that evening. The Chamber food booth will open from 11 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. and again at 5:30 p.m.

Thursday pageants include Fair Friends Baby Show for boys and girls (ages under 2) at 6 p.m.; Tiny Mr. & Miss Carroll County for boys and girls (age 2-3) following the baby show; and the Little Mr. & Miss Carroll County for boys and girls (ages 4-6) following the tiny pageant.

The petting zoo will open again on Friday at the fairgrounds. Exhibits open at 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The Chamber food booth is open from 11 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. Friday and again from 5:30 until 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

The annual Carroll County Fair concludes Saturday with a tractor and truck pull presented by USA Pullers. The show begins at 7 p.m. Admission to the event is $15, with children five and under free.
