Some Carroll County residents currently without access to high-speed internet service should be getting that access in the not-so-distant future.
During an Aug. 27 Zoom meeting of the Carroll County Electric Department (CCED) Board, CCED general manager Danny Brawner advised the board that TEC, a private telephone/internet provider, has recently completed the engineering work as part of a project to expand broadband access into two portions of the county in the McLemoresville and Buena Vista areas.
Brawner said that TEC is planning to start taking bids on Oct. 1 for the construction phase of the project, and if they get that completed by their target date in March of next year, they may start offering high-speed internet to residents in those two areas as early as April.

•Brawner advised the board that 42 customers experiencing financial hardship due to the pandemic have received assistance in paying their electric bills through the COVID-19 Community Care Fund, which has received $12,000 in donations from local residents, businesses, churches, and civic organizations, along with $10,000 in matching funds from TVA.
•The board continued discussions on the possibility of offering state operated pension benefits to CCED employees through the Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System (TCRS). Brawner said that TCRS is moving forward with the actuarial study to explore cost and benefit options, though they have not given him an update on how things are going.
