Carroll Co. Electric Dept. Board Meeting

More COVID relief may be coming for CCED customers

More relief funding may be coming for Carroll County Electric Department (CCED) customers experiencing financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the Sept. 24 CCED Board meeting, general manager Danny Brawner informed the board that TVA is planning to offer another matching grant of up to $10,000 to help struggling customers.

“We’ll have to decide if we want to do it,” said Brawner.

Back in May, TVA provided $10,000 in relief funding to match part of approximately $12,000 donated by local businesses, churches, civic organizations, and individuals through the COVID-19 Community Care Fund.

Of that $22,000, Brawner said that over $13,000 has already gone toward helping customers experiencing COVID-related difficulties to pay their electric bills with $8,222 still remaining in the Care Fund balance.

“There are still people who need help,” said Brawner. “We get people calling just about every day.”

Brawner told board members that he will let them know when the next round of TVA matching funds becomes available.

•Brawner told the board that he would be advertising for sealed bids for the sale of an old CCED digger truck. Brawner said that a couple of inquirers have expressed interest in purchasing the vehicle, which is a 2007 International 7400.

•Brawner advised the board that eight CCED employees have tested positive for COVID-19 so far, and others have had to self-quarantine temporarily due to contact with infected persons. Brawner added, however, that they have been able to maintain work crews without any interruption of services to customers. The office lobby is still closed to the public, said Brawner.

•Board members voted unanimously to submit a list of preferred options to the Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System (TCRS) regarding possible retirement plans for employees as part of an actuary study currently being conducted by TCRS. Brawner said TCRS should complete the study within 60 to 90 days and then present premium estimates to the board, at which time it will be up to the board whether or not to go with TCRS as their provider for employee retirement benefits.
