Members of the Carroll County Budget Committee put their stamp of approval on a proposed county budget – or at least most of it – for the 2020-21 fiscal year during their July 31 meeting.
That new budget, however, will still need to be approved by the full Legislative Body, and, according to County Mayor Joseph Butler, the regular County Commission meeting for August will be pushed back until later in the month. A date for that meeting had not yet been set as of press time Monday.
Portions of the new budget approved at the July 31 meeting included $12,395,717 in revenues and $12,253,168 in expenditures in the General Fund, $1,820,281 in revenues and $1,658,119 in expenditures in the Solid Waste/Recycling Fund, $94,500 in revenues and $138,107 in expenditures in the Drug Fund, $4,305,867 in revenues and $4,411,881 in expenditures in the Highway Department Fund, and $632,513 in revenues and $630,919 in expenditures in the General Debt Service Fund.
The Carroll County School Board’s portion of the budget has not yet been approved as Director of Schools Johnny McAdams is still working on his departmental budget. Once it has been submitted, the Budget Committee will meet again, and if approved, it will be presented as part of the larger budget before the full Legislative Body later this month.
Revenue for the new budget will be provided mostly through the new certified property tax rate of $1.4131 per $100 of assessed property value, which must also be approved by the County Commission. The current rate is $1.5519.
