Bruceton in May celebration is back this year

The Bruceton in May celebration will be back this year, according to an announcement made by Mayor Bob Keeton at the March 14 board meeting.

This will be the first one to be held since 2019. The celebration has not be held due to the threat of COVID. It will take  place in the city park.

“There will be lots of food,” said the mayor. “Food trucks will be there.”

In addition there will be a petting zoo, inflatables and other vendors. However, more vendors are needed. The Jimmy Church Band will be there that night.

The only thing that has changed is there will be no barbecue cook-off competition.

The mayor said Clean-Up Week has been set for April 10-14. All citizens should have items that they want to get rid of out by the street by April 14.

The roof at the Senior Citizens Center is now fixed and the city crew has about got the bathrooms repaired at city park.

Alderman Scotty Higdon complimented the city crew for doing a tremendous job in getting the trees and limbs up after the recent windstorm.

Alderman Jack Blocker bragged on the fire department, saying they do a great job.

A donation of $50 will be given to the Carroll County Sports Hall of Fame. Aldermen will also support Central High School’s Boys and Girls’ State by donating  $425 to each one.

Aldermen gave their permission to bid for an automated metering infrastructure device. It can read meters from city hall and water leaks can be pinpointed.It will be pair with  American Rescue Plan Act funds and state Deployment of America Plan funds.

During the meeting, city recorder Annie Hand gave an audit review for July 1 – June 30, 2022.

She said as of June 30, 2022, the governmental funds are as follow: assets, $2,311,143; and liabilities,  $133,840.

The current tax collections of $344,755 for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2021 were approximately 99 percent of the tax levy.

Bruceton Beer Board Meeting

During the Bruceton Beer Board meeting an Off Premise beer license was granted to Tr-Star Energy who will be doing business as Little General.

Certificates of Compliance to sell alcoholic beverages were granted three additional employees at Old Railroad Spirits. Each employee passed the required background check.
