Board approves contract for new director of schools

The West Carroll Board of Education’s decision last month to hire Preston Caldwell of Milan as the school district’s new director of schools was finalized Thursday night as the board voted unanimously to approve Caldwell’s contract.

That contract – a two-year employment agreement that expires in June of 2023 – includes a starting yearly salary of $90,000. It also features insurance benefits and reimbursement for job-related travel expenses.

By comparison, outgoing Director of Schools Dexter Williams is making a little over $100,000 a year as part of his contract, which is set to expire June 30 of this year. Williams has accepted positions as head boys basketball coach and athletic director at Trinity Christian Academy (TCA) in Jackson.

A called school board meeting has been set for Monday, April 26 at 6 p.m. to discuss Williams’ contract – discussions that may involve the possibility of the district buying out the remainder of Williams’ contract and bringing Caldwell on board as director before July.

Caldwell is currently serving as Principal at Lake County High School in Tiptonville.
