Big Sandy man killed in Highway 70 wreck

A Big Sandy man died from injuries he received in a June 3 6:30 a.m. vehicle accident on Highway 70, west of Huntingdon.

Stephen Carlyle, 59, was the victim in the four vehicle wreck. Three other people were involved in the wreck, but suffered no injuries, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol accident report.

According to the THP report, Carlyle, driving a 1998 Lexus GS3, was traveling north on Highway 70 when he attempted to pass a 2008 GMC TC, driven by John Whitfield, 65, of Bolivar and a 1990 International truck driven by Elston Beard, 63, of Toone. As Carlyle was attempting to go around these two vehicles he struck a 2015 International truck driven by Seth Rogers, Jr., 67, of Cedar Grove, that was traveling in the southbound lane. Carlyle’s vehicle then struck Whitfield and Beard’s vehicles.

There were no passengers in any of the vehicles. All of the drivers were wearing seat belts.
