Bethel football kicks off Friday

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused more than a few disruptions and delays over the past year or so, and the world of sports has certainly seen its fair share of that.

It was because of COVID that Bethel University’s football conference chose to postpone the 2020 season. But that season is still going forward in 2021 with the Wildcats’ first game set for Friday at Campbellsville, Kentucky, with kickoff slated for 1 p.m. at Finley Stadium.

The Wildcats have won their two last meetings with the Campbellsville Tigers.

But this better-late-than-never season will be an abbreviated one with only seven regular season games, including three home games and four on the road. All of these will be MSC Bluegrass Division games.

Bethel’s homecoming will be held on Feb. 19 as the Wildcats host UPike with game time at 7 p.m.

Other scheduled season games for the Wildcats include: Feb. 26 vs. Thomas More (away) at 5 p.m., March 12 vs. Cumberlands (home) at 7 p.m., March 19 vs. Georgetown (away) at 6 p.m., April 1 vs. Cumberland University (home) at 5 p.m., and April 9 vs. Lindsey Wilson (away) at 1:30 p.m.

This will be the second season for the Wildcats under the leadership of head coach Michael Jasper.

Regulations or possible restrictions on fan attendance had not yet been announced as of press time Monday.
