Bertha M. Martin

Bertha Mae Spain Martin, 91, of Huntingdon, passed away Sunday, Sept. 27, at NHC Healthcare in Milan. Graveside services were held Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 11 a.m., at Carter’s Chapel Cemetery with Darrell Ridgely officiating. Chase Funeral Home of Huntingdon was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Martin was born April 6, 1929, in Cedar Grove, to the late Jesse O. Spain and Zela Holder Spain. She was a homemaker and a member of Carter’s Chapel Methodist Church. Her hobbies were sewing, quilting, and cooking.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Calvin T. Martin, who passed away March 27; a daughter-in-law, Judy Martin, a sister, Floye Holland, and four brothers, Williard, Mitchell, Ladoit, and Curtis Spain.

She is survived by two daughters, Karen(Danny)  Volner, of Milan, and Sandra (Jimmy) Phillips, of Lavinia; two sons, James “Tommy” Linda) Martin, of McLemoresville, and Gary Martin of McKenzie; two sisters, Carolyn Hollingsworth, of Athens, and Ruth Harris, of Houston, Texas; a brother, Kenneth Spain, of Nashville; nine grandchildren, Sally (J.R.) Thompson, Manda Martin, Seth (Kim) Martin, Adam (Rachel) Naylor, Mark (Kami) Naylor, Kelly (Brent) Martin, Kayla Martin, Mitchell Martin, Cody Martin, and thirteen great-grandchildren.
