McKenzie Police Dept. is partnering with the Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO) to promote “Slow Down Tennessee.” Through April 30, McKenzie Police Dept. will increase education, awareness, and enforcement efforts to help reduce speeding-related crashes, injuries, and fatalities statewide.,
Last year in McKenzie there were ten vehicle accidents relating directly to speeding. Of these accidents three accidents caused injuries and eight caused some form of property damage. This year alone McKenzie officers have given 317 traffic warnings to individuals within the city limits and issued 174 speeding citations.
Assistance Chief Ricky Sawyers reported that residents of McKenzie and those traveling through McKenzie should take the dangers of speeding seriously. He further averred that getting to work one or two minutes early or late is never more important than you life or health.
Officers working with the McKenzie Police Dept. will be conducting saturation patrols randomly. These patrols will include stopping vehicles for traffic infractions to ensure that speeding is prevented and discouraged.
