4 Simple Tips To Remove Bad Smells in Your RV

Whether you’re living in an RV or are on vacation, a lingering stink can become nauseating. With a couple of tips to remove bad smells in your RV, you can keep your mobile home smelling fresh! So grab your cleaning supplies and try out these cleaning hacks.

Clean Out the Fridge

Some foods have more pungent odors than others. While last night’s dinner may have tasted great, you probably don’t want to smell the leftovers every time you open the fridge.

Regardless, if the stink comes from the fridge, then you can get rid of it by pouring half a cup of baking soda into a bowl with a bit of water. Stir the mixture until it becomes a paste, then empty the fridge and scrub the inside with the water-baking soda mixture.

Air It Out

Sometimes, removing unwanted odors is as easy as opening the windows and airing them out—open all the windows and doors to get some fresh air circulating. Take this time to relax outside your mobile home.

Pro-Tip

If airing it out doesn’t get fresh air circulated, you may need to replace your roof vent. Luckily, almost everyone can do this, even a novice RV owner. Just make sure you buy the appropriate size and have the necessary tools—a jigsaw, drill, caulk gun, etc.—before you start!

Check Your Water System

Check your septic tank and freshwater tank, as one or both may need a good washing. Likewise, a leak could lead to mildew, mold, or a musty smell in the RV. And a dirty septic tank could lead to some nauseating smells. If the holding tank is full, get disposable gloves, bleach wipes, and the necessary hook-up to empty it.

Simple Odor Removers

Some tips to remove bad smells in your RV are easier than others. It all depends on the smell. If the stench isn’t due to your water systems or other cleaning needs, then you could try getting rid of it by:

  • Using an essential oil diffuser
  • Taking out the trash more often
  • Getting a dehumidifier

Each of these deodorizers combats unwanted smells through various methods. Sometimes, taking the trash out removes the source and, with it, the odor. But if you notice the scent is a bit musty, then a dehumidifier helps remove excess moisture in the air. Take time to find the source of the smell so you can get rid of it with ease.
